Former Manchester City full-back Aleksandr Kolarov has highly praised current City full-back Joao Cancelo.
In the summer of 2019, Manchester City signed Joao Cancelo after paying some 30 million euros to Juventus.
After playing second fiddle for most of his first two seasons at the club, Joao Cancelo got his breakthrough during the last season. The Portuguese began to show his full potential when Spanish coach Pep Guardiola used him as an inverted left back.
Cancelo’s addition to midfield took City to another level. His gaming skills are now finally being put to use. He has become one of the best players in his position. It became clearer when the fullback is off to a great start this ongoing season.
Kolarov endorses the Manchester City star
Defending English Premier League champions Manchester City suffered their first defeat of the season against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool last Sunday. City fullback Joao Cancelo had a rare glitch as his mistake cost City their first defeat of the season.
However, now a former Manchester City player, Aleksandr Kolarov, has come to support the fullback. Kolarov praised Cancelo as a great footballer.
Speaking to Manchester City’s official website, the former City fullback said: “It was quite clear from the start that Cancelo was going to be very successful with Manchester City.”
Kolarov further added: “He can play on the right or on the left. In fact, he is more dangerous on the left because he can cut on the right and he has great vision, and he often looks more like a midfielder.”
The former Manchester City full-back further explained that due to his uniqueness, Cancelo is a very suitable player for Citizens manager Pep Guardiola’s setup.
Joao Cancelo then appeared in Manchester City’s final match against Brighton. the fullback had a decent outing as City came away with a 3-1 win over the Seagulls.
With this win, the Citizens now have twenty-six points from eleven games. They are currently in second place in the table, one point behind Arsenal, having played one more game. Pep Guardiola’s team will face Borussia Dortmund in their next game.
Cancelo, key player of Portugal
