Every World Cup goal from Qatar 2022

Every goal in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar was special. Still, there were more ‘special’ goals in this World Cup than in any previous tournament.

The 32 teams in the World Cup scored a combined total of 172 goals. Surprisingly, this is a new World Cup record in terms of total goals scored. Kylian Mbappé’s penalty in extra time was the 172nd goal of the tournament. He went to France 1998, which had one less with 171.

There were, on average, 2.72 goals per game. However, the most interesting stat in the group stage was the number of games or goalless times. There were seven goalless draws in the World Cup, an all-time tournament record. Only one of them happened in the knockout stages. Morocco defeated Spain on penalties after 120 minutes without scoring.

Thus, the number of blowouts or other high-scoring matters contributed to the elevated goal total. Spain beat Costa Rica 7-0 in their World Cup debut. England and Iran combined for eight goals early in the tournament. Portugal beat Switzerland by six in the round of 16. Cameroon and Serbia drew 3-3, with neither team advancing from the group. Ultimately, six games had five goals in total, either 4-1 or 3-2 on the scoreboard.

Every Qatar 2022 World Cup goal

Now, you can rewatch every goal from that crazy World Cup. That includes the group stage and the knockout stage.

Relive Argentina’s run to the World Cup final. Sure there were many goals. Argentina scored 10 goals in the last four games to win their third World Cup title. Or you can watch Kylian Mbappé dominate. He scored eight World Cup goals, tied for the most since Gerd Müller scored 10 in the 1970 World Cup.

Also, keep in mind that the number of World Cup games increases in 2026. So there is a high probability that a new record will be set in that tournament.
