Everton made an ambitious call to Mauricio Pochettino last year

Everton made an ambitious call to Mauricio Pochettino last year as they planned their next move after Frank Lampard.

Before the World Cup break, Everton suffered two defeats in the span of a few days, both away to Bournemouth. Everton conceded seven goals in the two goals which understandably took a toll on the club’s hierarchy.

Everton opted to keep Lampard before sacking him in January. However, during the World Cup, Everton made an ambitious call to former Tottenham and PSG manager Pochettino to assess whether he would be interested in replacing Lampard, according to the Daily Mail.

Understandably, with Everton currently in the relegation zone of the Premier League, it was not a job that Pochettino was interested in. Not surprising considering the Argentine has managed PSG and Tottenham recently, two clubs well ahead of Everton at the moment.

Attracting this caliber of manager will not be easy for Everton for multiple reasons. His position in the league, fan unease and financial difficulties mean it’s not the most attractive job to get into.
