The 53-year-old believes the summer tour of the US has taken its toll on the team physically, while the young players have been thrown onto the pitch perhaps prematurely.
“Juventus is paying for injuries. The summer tour kills you. The team was not able to prepare properly,” Di Francesco said in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport via TuttoJuve.
“The youngsters are interesting, but they have been forced to become headlines.”
Di Francesco was behind Sassuolo’s rise to prominence in Serie A. He also led Roma to the Champions League Semi-Finals in 2018, but has had a skid of late after disappointing brief spells at Cagliari, Sampdoria and Verona. .
