Ethan Nwaneri breaks Premier League record

Arsenal News: Arsenal youngster Ethan Nwaneri has now become the youngest player to feature in an English Premier League match.

Nwaneri, currently aged 15 years and 181 days, came on as a substitute in added time and replaced Arsenal’s summer signing Fabio Vieira in the attacking midfield position.

After joining Arsenal in 2016, Nwaneri is a highly skilled attacking midfielder. At the age of 14, he was playing for Arsenal’s Under-18 team.

Nwaneri has already represented the Three Lions in age across different age groups and is one of England’s upcoming prospects.

Nwaneri started playing for Arsenal Under-18 from the beginning of the season. His brilliant performance helped him become a member of the Under-21 team.

He was further rewarded when Mikel Arteta asked the youngster to join first team practice earlier this month.

Nwaneri then came into the spotlight when he made his senior team debut today against Brentford, making him the youngest player to feature in an EPL match.

Before this match, this record was held by Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott. Elliott made his Premier League debut for Fulham when he was 16 years and 30 days old.

Meanwhile, Arsenal recorded a comfortable win against London rivals Brentford.

The Gunners started the game superbly. Defender William Saliba gave Arsenal the lead in the 17th minute when he headed in Bukayo Saka’s corner kick.

The gunners soon doubled their lead. Towards 28 ‘, a well-floated cross from Xhaka found Jesus who did not miss and he scored the second goal.

The first half ended without further action as Arsenal took a 2-0 lead in the locker room. Going back into the second half, the Gunners started from where they left off.

Arsenal are currently going through an injury crisis. Arteta later confirmed the same and called it the main reason for Nwaneri’s debut.

Arsenal will now have a long break due to the upcoming international transfer window. They will face Tottenham Hotspur in their next game.
