Erling Haaland’s Release Clause Not an Issue for Manchester City

Manchester City signed Erling Haaland at the start of the season after paying his £51m release clause to Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund.

After his signing many questions arose. People doubted that he couldn’t replicate his exquisite goalscoring record at Dortmund at Manchester City. The biggest question was whether he would fit into Pep Guardiola’s system.

Since then, Haaland has been nothing more than a sensation in the light blue Manchester City shirt. The former Dortmund striker has already become one of the best players in the English Premier League.

He has already scored twenty goals in thirteen games so far. This also includes three hattricks against Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest and Manchester United. In general, he is the new hope of the Citizens and the new monster of Pep Guardiola.

Haaland’s release clause is not a big deal for Manchester City

Erling Haaland’s release clause is not a problem for Manchester City

Interestingly, a few days ago, Erling Haaland’s father revealed that his son wants to play in the top five leagues in Europe at some point in his career.

Haaland’s father thinks that if the striker plays three for four in a league that will be enough for him. This gave rise to many rumors about Haaland leaving Manchester City in the near future.

However, last Tuesday, Athletic confirmed that Erling Haaland’s contract with Manchester City contains a special termination clause.

Erling Haaland reportedly has a release clause worth €200 million which will be available from 2024. To put more context, the value of the release clause will drop rapidly in the coming years until 2027. However This will only be valid for teams outside of England.

This gave new fuel to the Erling Haaland transfer rumours. People began to fear that the talisman will leave in the summer of 2024.

However, if we see how Manchester City has managed since Pep Guardiola became their manager, we can say that the launch will not bother the City administration at all.

The Spanish coach believes in a simple thing. He does not keep any player who wants to go to another club. That is the main reason Manchester City sold the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Rahim Sterling and Ferran Torres in the last two windows.

So if Haaland wants to discontinue at the Etihad, City will simply sell him to suitors for a reasonable price and sign his replacement. That is why Haaland’s termination clause is not going to bother them much.
