Erik ten Hag has asked Manchester United to make an effort to sign Frenkie de Jong in the January transfer window, according to a report.
Man Utd had made De Jong a transfer target in the previous summer transfer window. The club searched for a move for the Dutchman throughout the summer, but a deal never materialized.
Man Utd had, at one point, agreed a fee with Barcelona for De Jong’s transfer. But the Dutch international wanted to stay in Barcelona. The money that Barcelona owed De Jong in deferred wages also complicated things.
Meanwhile, Man Utd signed two midfielders in the summer transfer window. They acquired the services of Christian Eriksen free of charge. The Red Devils also signed Casemiro, signed from Real Madrid.

According to SPORT, Ten Hag have asked Man Utd to make another attempt to sign De Jong in the upcoming January transfer window.
The Dutchman sees De Jong as a player with a different profile from the summer signing of Eriksen. Ten Hag wants Man Utd to improve their creativity and control of the game – SPORT reports that it is non-negotiable for the Dutchman.
Meanwhile, it remains to be seen if Man Utd will make a move for the Dutch midfielder in the January transfer window.
Even if they do, it will be interesting to see if De Jong will be open to a move to the Premier League side.
