Erik ten Hag said Jadon Sancho is taking the next steps towards a return to first-team action at Manchester United.
Speaking at Sunday’s pre-match press conference against Arsenal, recorded after Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, the manager said: “I can’t answer that. He is taking the next step. True, yesterday (Tuesday) was his first day in team training, but team training is the last day before the game.
“We will extend it in the next few days, next week and we will go step by step.”
The manager also once again reiterated the fact that he is looking for transfers in this transfer window, saying:
“I think as Man United you always have to look for solutions, and you always have to look for something better and that is what we will do.
“We will do our investigation. If there are opportunities, we have to go for them”.
Asked if he was surprised by Arsenal’s position at the top of the Premier League table, the manager explained:
“No. At the time we played them, you could already see that the manager and the coaching staff were working as a team for a long time. You see very good structures in the team. They have even improved during the first half of the season.
“They are on a great streak. It’s up to us to beat his streak and we’ll do everything we can to do that.
“There is a very good spirit in his team, so we know what to do. We have to be very good. We need a very good performance. But if we do, I think we also have a good chance to get a good result out of that performance.”
The coach also confirmed, due to the early programming of the communicator that was embargoed until today, that he could not say if Diogo Dalot or Anthony Martial would be fit to play on Sunday.
One player who is definitely offside is Casemiro, who received a fifth yellow card on Wednesday and is therefore serving a one-match ban.
