Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has made the decision to allow defender Harry Maguire to go on holiday to clear his head.
According to the Daily Mail, the United manager has made an exception to his own rule requiring injured players to remain with the team while they recover.
According to The Mail from a club source, “Erik has high standards that everyone must meet. He hopes that all the injured players will stay in the group.”
“He believes they should function as a single unit, wounded or not. But in Harry’s case, he felt there were exceptional circumstances. He wanted him to have a mental break from the pressure he’s under.”
“He left with his family and Erik hopes that puts him in a better place to recover from the injury and rediscover his form.”
Since then, Maguire has traveled for a short holiday in Portugal at the Quinta do Lago golf course.
The Mail reports that Ten Hag’s decision to let Maguire go amid a busy and match-packed October schedule has not gone down well in certain sections of the locker room.
In the absence of the England international, a rift ensued where tensions boiled over following the Manchester derby debacle.
Ten Hag allowed the team to express themselves about what went wrong. Lisandro Martinez and Scott McTominay were the most vocal players in the meeting.
Maguire has endured a horrible season so far with both club and country.
The 29-year-old lost his guaranteed place in United’s backline with Ten Hag favoring a partnership of Martinez and Raphael Varane.
