Erik ten Hag Provides Injury Update on Raphael Varane

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Raphael Varane will miss the rest of the Red Devils’ games before the World Cup kicks off in November this year.

Varane picked up an injury during Man Utd’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea, with the Frenchman stretching himself too far in an attempt to challenge Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The 29-year-old had to be removed and the defender left the pitch in tears.

The injury has raised concerns about whether Varane could make it to the World Cup. However, it is said that his injury is not as serious as first feared, but he could still miss France’s first match in the upcoming World Cup.

Speaking at the press conference ahead of Man Utd’s Europa League match against FC Sheriff, Ten Hag confirmed that Varane will not play for the Red Devils in the remainder of their World Cup matches.

Writing Varane off until the World Cup, Ten Hag said: “Raphael Varane is not in the squad. He will be out until the World Cup. He will not play in this block for Man United”.

Meanwhile, Ten Hag also confirmed that Cristiano Ronaldo will be in the Man Utd squad for their match against FC Sheriff. The Portuguese superstar was dropped from the Man Utd squad for their match against Chelsea as punishment for his behaviour.

Ronaldo had made headlines for all the wrong reasons when he charged down the tunnel and left Old Trafford before Man Utd’s game against Tottenham Hotspur was over.

Following clash talks between Ronaldo and Ten Hag, Man Utd confirmed that the 37-year-old will not be traveling with the team for their trip to Stamford Bridge. Ronaldo also trained alone at Carrington.

Ten Hag also later confirmed that Ronaldo refused to come on as a late substitute in Man Utd’s 2–0 win over Tottenham Hotspur.

Ronaldo has rejoined the Man Utd first-team squad, with Ten Hag confirming that he will be part of the squad to face FC Sheriff. “Cristiano Ronaldo will be in the team,” Ten Hag said.

Meanwhile, Man Utd take on FC Sheriff in their fifth game of the Europa League group stage. The Old Trafford side had secured a 2-0 win when the two teams met in the group stage earlier this season.

Man Utd currently sit second in Group E with nine points from their first four matches in the competition. They are behind Real Sociedad, who have 12 points from four games.
