Erik ten Hag Insists Man Utd Have to Sign a Striker to Replace Cristiano Ronaldo

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has insisted they have to sign a striker to replace Cristiano Ronaldo, who parted ways with the club in November this year.

Manchester United terminated Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract by mutual consent in November this year. The decision to part ways with the Portuguese superstar followed his explosive interview with Piers Morgan in which he criticized Manchester United and Erik ten Hag, among many others.

Since then, the Red Devils have been linked with several players to replace Cristiano Ronaldo. One of the attackers strongly linked to the move to Manchester United was the attacker for the Dutch national soccer team and PSV, Cody Gakpo.

But Cody Gakpo, who also drew transfer interest from Manchester United in the 2022 summer transfer window, is set to join Red Devil’s Premier League rivals Liverpool.

Erik ten Hag has admitted that they have to sign a striker following Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure from the club. But he stressed that the new striker has to be the right player for Manchester United.

The Dutchman also admitted that Manchester United’s young players could step up to fill the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Two things,” Erik ten Hag told reporters. “Impulse can leave our own club, look [Alejandro] Grenache, see [Anthony] In the sun, look [Facundo] Pellistri, who made a good impression at the World Cup and also in training. That’s first.

“Secondly, yes, we are aware that we lost a striker, so I think we have to bring in a striker, but it has to be the right one. The right one is a player who brings quality to the team, not just adding to the squad because that only gives you problems. And you know the bar is high here at Manchester United.”

Meanwhile, Manchester United currently sit fifth in the Premier League points table. The Old Trafford side have 26 points from 14 games in the English top flight this season.

The Red Devils are just four points behind Tottenham Hotspur, who sit fourth in the Premier League points table. That means that if they win both games in hand over Tottenham Hotspur, they could be in the top four on the Premier League points table.
