Erik ten Hag has responded to Pep Guardiola’s comments suggesting the Manchester United are back

Erik ten Hag has responded to Pep Guardiola’s comments by suggesting that Manchester United are making a comeback.

During his press conference ahead of Manchester City’s match against Leicester on Saturday, Guardiola praised Manchester United under Ten Hag.

“I have a feeling that United is coming back, finally United is coming back… I said I like what I see from United at the moment. There will be many teams like United fighting [for the top four]”, Guardiola said, quoted by the Daily Mail.

Under Ten Hag, Manchester United have progressed throughout the season and are starting to show consistent form. It’s likely to be more of a long-term project under Ten Hag, but seeing them get some positive results is a huge positive for Manchester United fans.

However, Ten Hag was not as convinced as Guardiola, and played down talk of a Manchester United return.

“It’s a bit too fast,” Ten Hag said of Guardiola’s comments, also quoted in the Daily Mail report.

As mentioned above, the Ten Hag project will look at the long-term future of the club and they are unlikely to be judged too much by immediate results.

Of course, the club will be desperate to improve on last season, but to suggest that Manchester United are back may be too soon, especially considering how they previously dominated English football.
