Erik ten Hag Confirms Manchester United’s January Transfer Plans

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed that the Red Devils are on the transfer market during the January window for new signings.

The Red Devils are reportedly looking to bolster their attacking department during the January transfer window following Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure from the club in November this year.

Manchester United and Cristiano Ronaldo parted ways in November when the Old Trafford outfit terminated the Portuguese superstar’s contract by mutual consent. The decision to terminate Ronaldo’s contract came after his explosive interview with Piers Morgan.

Ronaldo, who re-signed for Manchester United in the summer of 2021, had a contract until 2023 with Man Utd that also had the option to extend it for another year. However, his stay was cut short after his controversial interview with Piers Morgan, in which he criticized Manchester United, Erik ten Hag among many others.

Cody Gakpo was one of the players linked with a move to Manchester United. But the Dutch international is set to join the Red Devils’ Premier League rival Liverpool, who have reached an agreement with PSV Eindhoven for the transfer of the 23-year-old striker.

Speaking after Manchester United’s win over Nottingham Forest in their first Premier League game after the winter break, Erik ten Hag confirmed that they are looking at new signings on the market.

But the Manchester United manager also insisted that any new signing would be in line with their sporting and economic criteria.

“We are always on the market but it has to match the sporting criteria but also the financial criteria and we will do what we can to bring in that player that we need,” said Erik ten Hag.

The Dutchman also refused to comment on the departure of his compatriot Cody Gakpo to Liverpool.

I’m not talking about any individual case. [Gakpo]. I’m not looking at other teams, I’m looking at our team,” said Erik ten Hag.

He added: “I am convinced in the players we have, individually and as a team, that we can compete with those other teams.”
