Erik ten Hag Challenges Marcus Rashford to Be More Clinical

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has challenged the club’s striker Marcus Rashford to be more clinical in front of goal.

The England international has already racked up five goals in 10 games in the Premier League and Europa League so far this season. That’s the same number of goals he managed to score for Man Utd last season despite making a further 22 appearances.

However, Rashford drew a blank as Man Utd met Omonia in their fourth game of the 22/23 Europa League campaign in their previous game. He performed from start to finish, but finished the match without scoring despite a number of chances.

Speaking ahead of Man Utd’s next game, a game against Newcastle United in the Premier League, Ten Hag challenged Rashford to be more clinical.

“He did a lot of things well, but he knows he has to be more clinical and he had to score a goal,” the Manchester United manager said.

Ten Hag added, “When you have such good moves and make such good combinations, good deeds, then you have to finish.”

Ten Hag also said that Man Utd have players who can score 20 goals a season, but stressed the need for players in midfield and defensive departments to get their name on the scoresheet.

“I think we have players in our squad who can score that many goals. But I think we also need something from the midfield and the defensive department,” Ten Hag said when asked if he has a player who can score 20 goals per season.

Meanwhile, Man Utd head into the game against Newcastle United following their 1-0 victory over Omonia in the Europa League. Despite dominating the match, Man Utd had to wait until minute 90+3 to break the tie and find the winner.

Scott McTominay, coming on from the bench, scored the crucial goal that gave Man Utd all three points and brought them one step closer to the next stage of the competition.

Meanwhile, Man Utd had also secured a victory in their previous match in the Premier League. They faced Everton in an away game and recorded a 2-1 victory, with Antony and Cristiano Ronaldo scoring the goals.

Man Utd currently sit fifth in the points table with 15 points from eight matches. They are nine points behind leaders Arsenal, but the Old Trafford side have a game to play.
