Manchester United will explore the January market in search of striker alternatives.
Erik ten Hag is desperate for a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo. There are many names that have been mentioned in this regard.
Some of these names include AC Milan’s Cody Gakpo, Gonçalo Ramos and Rafael Leao.
For each target, United face a major battle to lure them to Old Trafford in January.
For example, in the case of Goncalo Ramos, with Benfica currently at the top of the Portuguese League table and in the round of 16 of the Champions League, the club’s president, Rui Costa, has publicly stated that the The only way to get rid of the Portuguese in January would be to pay his release clause of 120 million euros.
Rafael Leao is also locked in negotiations with the Serie A giants over a new deal, amid heightened interest and competition over his Chelsea signing.
PSV Eindhoven are also demanding a significant fee for Gakpo, one of the rising stars of the World Cup.
According to The Telegraph, Ten Hag has added another name to his transfer list of potential Ronaldo replacements: Mohammed Kudus.
Luke Edwards reports: “Another player on United’s shortlist is Ajax’s Ghanaian international Mohammed Kudus, who has worked with Ten Hag before.”
Edwards’ report is corroborated by The Athletic, who states: “Ten Hag admires the skill and dynamism of Mohammed Kudus, the 22-year-old Ghanaian star he managed at Ajax.”
Athletic add that United’s club bosses are aware of how difficult it is to achieve high-level goals during the winter window.
That is why they have reached an ultimatum: the club will not bet on a bargain that does not have the necessary quality to improve the squad. Any deal must also be affordable.
