The Premier League returns to action when the calendar reaches March. The weekend games list also has some tasty accessories. That includes a derby, a top-five clash and some key games for the relegation candidates.
Manchester City’s match against Newcastle kicks off the weekend on Saturday morning. The reverse game in the league delivered one of the games of the season. a 3-3 draw at St. James Park featured magnificent goals and a comeback. The game at the Etihad Stadium is important for both of them, as Newcastle trail Tottenham in the table and City need points to keep up with Arsenal at the top.
After that, the relegation battle is huge. Leeds travels to Chelsea, who has been distributing points to those below this season. Southampton picked up three points there before losing at Leeds. The Saints host Leicester City on Saturday still sitting bottom of the table. The other relegation candidates are Everton, Bournemouth, West Ham and Wolves. They are all underdogs in their weekend games.
Even then, the biggest game on Sunday is Manchester United’s trip to Anfield to take on Liverpool. This could be an important moment in the future for both clubs. With a win at Anfield, United would complete the double over Liverpool this season. By doing so, Erik ten Hag would have his team rightfully in the title race. The Red Devils trail only Arsenal by eight and City by six, nothing insurmountable. Liverpool are still in contention to finish in the top four. However, Jürgen Klopp’s team is still nine points behind Tottenham in that regard. Three points over an in-form United would do wonders.
NBC coverage this weekend
Rebecca Lowe is back behind the NBC coverage desk this weekend, along with Tim Howard and Robbie Mustoe. Paul Burmeister completes Monday’s buffer coverage. Studio teams have pregame and postgame coverage for each of the six kickoff windows this weekend.
The busiest of those windows is on Saturday at 10 am, when there are five simultaneous games. Tune in to GOAL RUSH. This quick show focuses on one game, but includes highlights and big moments as they happen on the other four courses.
