Many of the eyes on English football this weekend turn to the Carabao Cup final. Newcastle, without goalkeeper Nick Pope, faces Manchester United in form from Wembley. Those two teams fighting for the top of the table are not in league action this weekend.
Perhaps that will allow fans a chance to focus their attention on the background. Whereas just over a week ago we had the top two teams in action, this weekend brings the bottom two teams into action. 19th-ranked Leeds United sit bottom of the table Southampton, who scored a huge win last weekend at Stamford Bridge. The winner of this game has the potential to move out of the relegation zone.
Fans also have the chance to see a clash in London between two teams going in opposite directions. Chelsea, who can’t seem to buy a positive result, sit 10th in the table. The Blues travel to London to take on Tottenham, who overtook Newcastle in the table last weekend to take that valuable fourth spot.
There are just eight games over three days this weekend in the Premier League as a result of the Carabao Cup (live exclusively on ESPN+ Sunday at 11:30am ET). The four teams that did not play are Manchester United and Newcastle, who had games against Brentford and Brighton, respectively.
