EPL commentators on NBC: Dec. 30 to Jan. 5

This weekend’s Premier League matches fall around the turn of the year. In 2022, Manchester City won another Premier League title, Americans started buying Premier League clubs for fun, and some great players came along. Namely, Erling Haaland transformed the Premier League into his own personal playground.

What can 2023 bring? Well, if the early part of the 2022/23 campaign is any indicator, Arsenal are rising back to the top. The Gunners top the table at the turn of the year, with something of a cushion over Manchester City and Newcastle United. As stated, it looks like Erling Haaland will challenge the Premier League goalscoring records. The Norwegian has 18 league goals in just 13 games this season.

The props surrounding the New Year festivities bring a grand welcome to 2023. The latest game of 2022 features Arsenal at the top of the table in Brighton. The Gulls are having another decent season all things considered. In fact, although it is a bit early in the season, Brighton is not far from the European places in the table. Arsenal have bigger aspirations than that. Mikel Arteta sees this game as a way to show Arsenal’s intention in the league.

Then the first game of 2023 pits Aston Villa against Tottenham Hotspur. Villa have had an up and down season but sit comfortably in the middle of the table. Meanwhile, Tottenham occupies that fourth place in the table. However, their rivals, Manchester United and Liverpool, have one game less than Spurs.
