Enzo Fernandez Insists He Is Focused on Benfica Amid Transfer Speculation

Argentina national soccer team midfielder Enzo Fernández has insisted he is focused on Benfica amid transfer speculation linking him with a move away from the Portuguese team.

Enzo Fernández was part of the Argentina soccer team that participated in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The 21-year-old featured in all seven matches the South American heavyweights played in Qatar in 2022 as they lifted the title of the FIFA World Cup.

Enzo Fernández also scored a goal and registered an assist for Argentina in the last edition of the FIFA World Cup. His performance also earned him the young player of the tournament award at Qatar 2022.

Several clubs have already been linked to the signing of Enzo Fernández in January, whose shares have already risen following his impressive performances with Benfica and the Argentina national football team.

Benfica signed Enzo Fernández from Argentina’s River Plate in the 2022 summer transfer window. The Portuguese outfit signed the Argentine on a five-year contract.

Since joining Benfica, Enzo Fernández has featured in 24 matches for the Portuguese side and has been largely impressive. He has also scored three goals and provided five assists for Benfica since he moved to the Portuguese club.

Manchester United, Liverpool and Real Madrid are among the clubs rumored to be interested in the services of Enzo Fernández. The 21-year-old has a release clause in his contract with Benfica, which is reportedly worth 120 million euros.

Amid speculation that he is moving away from Benfica, Fernández has insisted that he is focused on the Portuguese club.

“I don’t know anything about [a transfer]”, Fernández told fans in his homeland. “It depends on my agent, I don’t want to get involved. I am focused on Benfica, in a few days we have an important match”.

Meanwhile, his current contract with Benfica runs until 2027. That means he has more than four years left on his current deal. But the transfer interest he has attracted from some of Europe’s heavyweights means he and Benfica are likely to part ways in the next January transfer window or in the summer of 2023.
