Elliott reveals the one ‘area’ of his game that he wants to improve

Harvey Elliott called his Liverpool team-mate Mo Salah “incredible” and explained that the Egyptian king is someone he looks up to.

The former AS Roma star has been recognized as one of the best players in the world in recent years with his incredible performances and impressive goalscoring record since arriving on Merseyside: the 30-year-old has scored 161 goals in 265 appearances for the club (in all competitions).

England Under-21 international Elliott has also highlighted the area of his own game that he is looking to improve in this term.

“Mo is amazing,” Elliott told the Liverpool Echo (via The Boot Room). “I mean, I don’t have to say much about Mo, he’s shown why he’s one of the best players in the world today and he’s done it in a lot of games. He is always there to help me and on the right side it is always good to have someone to pass the ball to or receive it.

“It’s amazing to have these guys around and I’m just trying to learn from them every day and do what I can to make sure one day I’m up there with them.

“[The senior players] put his arm around me and give me a hand if needed, but at the same time I need to solve my own problems and I need to deal with them like a man. It’s a man’s game and I’m not a kid anymore so I need to have that authority and make sure I get things done.

“I think defending is a [area to improve]. Obviously myself, as an attacking player, I have had to make the change to midfield and there are different changes that I have had to make in my game. I take on a lot more responsibility in terms of defense and attack, so I need to do my best.”

Jurgen Klopp isn’t afraid to trust the youngsters at the club and Elliott was adamant about the German’s plans last season.

He appeared in the first three Premier League games before suffering that nasty ankle injury against Leeds at Elland Road and spent five months on the sidelines as a result.

He made a goalscoring return to the team in our FA Cup loss to Cardiff in February, a competition we would go on to win.

So far this season, the No. 19 has been one of our standout players despite the club experiencing a slow start to the campaign.

His ability to receive the ball in the mid-turn and make things happen is what sets him apart from many of our other midfield options and every time the youngster steps into his field you know he will give 110%.

Elliott scored his first Premier League goal for the club in a 9-0 win over Bournemouth in August and certainly has a promising future ahead of him at Anfield.

Learning from Salah every day in training will certainly help the youngster and we look forward to continuing to see him develop with Klopp.
