EFL games set to resume next week for midweek fixtures

EFL midweek matches will resume next week amid ongoing uncertainty over safety and resources during the period of mourning for Queen Elizabeth II.

The Queen died last week, bringing the country to a standstill as preparations are made for the late monarch’s funeral.

The Premier League has postponed the weekend’s matches and it is not yet clear when they will be able to return to action due to concerns over police numbers.

Still, reports now claim that EFL matches next week can go ahead.

The BBC’s Simon Stone has said:

“Organized football will return on Monday. Four FA Trophy games and two in the National League pyramid can go ahead as scheduled.” He said on Twitter, later adding: “The plan is for EFL games to be played mid-week subject to local surveillance/security to be dealt with on a game-by-game basis.”
