Blues boss Todd Boehly was interested in signing the Mexico international and reportedly told the player he would come back for him in the future.
However, according to Ben Jacobs, this is not entirely guaranteed as Chelsea’s new recruiting team is now likely to have the final say on whether or not to go through with this deal…
Ajax’s Edson Alvarez remains on Chelsea’s radar. He wanted the move last summer and didn’t show up for practice to try to force it on him. As reported, he was told by Todd Boehly that #CFC would be back in January. He is now up to the new recruiting team if they comply. https://t.co/AwHEATQnxZ

Álvarez has impressed at Ajax and is surely worth looking at for Chelsea, who have N’Golo Kante and Jorginho out on contract in the summer.
Still, it may not be easy to get Ajax to sell, as the Dutch giants have already dumped so many stars over the summer, with Lisandro Martinez and Antony moving to Manchester United, while Sebastien Haller joined Borussia Dortmund.
Losing Álvarez would also be a huge blow for Ajax, but one imagines Chelsea could give them something to think about if they make the right offer.
