Eckerlin vs. de Oliveira II headlines OKTAGON 36 in return to Frankfurt

OKTAGON MMA made history in June when they staged their inaugural show in Germany and packed the iconic Festhalle Frankfurt with 9,500 fans for the first-ever mixed martial arts event in the stunning venue. The atmosphere was electric as loyal and knowledgeable fans cheered on their heroes and witnessed a milestone for the sport in Europe. Next month, OKTAGON MMA will be doing it all over again!

On Saturday, October 15, Festhalle Frankfurt will open its doors once again to continue the history of MMA in the country. OKTAGON 36 is packed with big names and promises to be one of the biggest cards on the continent this year. Several high-stakes major engagements have already been confirmed that will have significant consequences for their respective divisions.

In the main event, Germany’s biggest MMA star Christian Eckerlin (14-5, 1NC) will look to blow the roof off the arena for the second time when he takes on Denilson Neves de Oliveira (16-8, 1NC) in a highly anticipated rematch at a catchweight of 82 kg/181 lbs. Both men seek revenge after their controversial first meeting at the same venue at OKTAGON 33.

Eckerlin’s original opponent for the event earlier this year dropped out, so the Brazilian stepped in on short notice to keep the former professional footballer on the card. During the first round of the fight, the referee ordered a low blow and stopped the fight after de Oliveira delivered a kick that landed on the 35-year-old and sent him to the canvas. The fight continued and Eckerlin rallied in the second round to land a takedown before dominating the punches, leading to a TKO victory.

After the fight, there was a lot of discussion between fans, media, influencers and fighters about the outcome of the fight, so GEMMAF, Germany’s regulatory body, made a detailed analysis of the cheap shot incident. They concluded that the result of the fight should be changed to a no contest. Eckerlin immediately called for a rematch so the score can be settled once and for all. He wants to prove that he is the better man and finish off Oliveira again, while the Brazilian believes that he should have given him the victory in the first fight. The atmosphere will be off scale during this monumental fight for Frankfurt.

In the co-feature, Germany’s top light heavyweight Stephan Puetz (21-5) faces Miloš Petrášek (12-6) in a major fight for the division. Earlier this year in Frankfurt, Puetz emerged victorious over Martin Zawada in ‘The Battle for Germany’ and a feud with OKTAGON MMA Light Heavyweight Champion Karlos Vémola (33-6) ignited when both men called each other out. to decide who the real ‘Terminator’ in OKTAGON MMA is.

That fight will have to wait for now because Vémola’s sparring partner Petrášek asked if he could take on Puetz and back his teammate. The Czech fighter is ranked #4 in the division and sees this contest as the perfect opportunity to climb even higher in the rankings. He has a 100% completion rate and Vémola himself said on a recent episode of OKTAGON HYPE that Petrášek is the toughest guy in the gym and that he will destroy Puetz. Can Petrášek get the biggest win of his career or will Puetz claim his title shot?

A strong earthquake is headed for Frankfurt and will shake the city to its foundations. The man known simply as ‘The Boss’, Hatef Moeil (12-4), will collide with power forward Jeremy Kimball (18-9), with the winner moving atop the division. Both competitors have a combined 23 knockout wins on their records, so this one almost certainly won’t go the distance. Can ‘Boss’ tame the massive ‘Grizzly’?

Additionally, Máté Kertész (12-5, 1NC) will take on German fan favorite Christian Jungwirth (12-5) in a welterweight rematch between top-ranked contenders. It was an exciting back-and-forth contest when they first fought early last year, but Kertész emerged victorious with a hard-fought split decision. Jungwirth, who is enjoying a three-fight winning streak, wants nothing more than revenge in front of an adoring crowd. If this fight is half as good as the first, Festhalle Frankfurt is in for a treat.

New signings from OKTAGON MMA will also appear at the event as former UFC athlete Mallory Martin (7-5) takes on Katharina Dalisda (6-3) in a strawweight bout. This contest is extremely important as it is the first women’s MMA fight to take place in Frankfurt.

Zdenek Polivka (8-5) will face Samuel ‘Pirat’ Krištofič (15-4) in a middleweight bout after Polivka posted a video online challenging the former interim champion. Top German light heavyweight Alexander Poppeck (14-4) returns to OKTAGON MMA as he takes on Nermin Hajdarpašić (4-0) at a catchweight of 99kg / 218lbs.

OKTAGON 36 will be broadcast live around the world on OKTAGON.TV.
