Colm Murphy has told Liam Gaynor to get in touch if he wants to.
Murphy claimed the BUI featherweight title in just his fifth fight when he defeated Ruadhan Farrell at the SSE Arena on the ‘Return of the Mick’ card last month and is ready to return straight to national action if need be.
That Murphy-Farrell fight captured widespread attention, but Gaynor’s eyes weren’t set on the clash solely for entertainment purposes, the Tallaght fighter revealing that he was looking for the winner.
The enthusiastic fighter from Bolton told Irish-boxing.com he could see Murphy ‘fighting’ his style if a fight was confirmed.
It wasn’t exactly a call, but it put the idea of a fight in Murphy’s head and told Gaynor he can have it if he wants.
“I saw the article you had with Liam Gaynor saying he wanted a matchup with the winner for the title. Do you still want it? I’m sure if his management contacted Mark [Dunlop] we can organize another domestic dispute.
The BUI title usually comes with the mandatory status of the Irish title meaning that Murphy and Gaynor, if deemed worthy of the Irish title by the BUI, could fight for the Irish strap.
Murphy reveals that MHD boss Dunlop has mentioned the Irish title, but for the time being he is okay with defending the Celtic title.
“I am not sure about the details of an Irish title. I know Mark has thought and sought to get me that belt, but I would love to defend my belt first if possible. Mark makes the calls and I know I’m in good hands.”
