Devin Haney Trashes Tank Davis For “cop Out” Excuse For Not Fighting Him

By Allan Fox: Devin Haney shot Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis for his “getting away” excuse for not fighting him by saying he makes “five times” more money.

Undisputed lightweight champion Haney (28-0, 15 KO) believes Tank (27-0, 25 KO) was just looking for any excuse to avoid having to fight him.

If WBA ‘regular’ lightweight champion Gervonta really wanted the fight with Haney, he could easily get it done by asking World Boxing Association President Gilberto Mendoza to make him the mandatory for his WBA belt, which according to Devin is the “real” with that sanctioning body.

Haney has a title defense against former champion George Kambosos Jr. next month on October 15 at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia.

Assuming all goes well, Haney will be looking for a big name. It will look bad on Tank’s part if he chooses to decline Haney’s offer.

“I never said I wanted the Mickey Mouse belt. [WBA ‘regular]. He can drop the belt,” Devin Haney told Fighthype about Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis.

“They are [WBA] he’s going to drop the belt anyway. The WBA is not going to retain the regular champions. They are preparing to drop the belt. So he [Tank Davis] he can come challenge me for my WBA belt or whatever.

“If he really wants the fight, he can get it. All you have to do is tell her [WBA president] Gilbert [Mendoza], ‘Hey, I’m dropping this belt. I want to fight for the real belt’, and the fight can be done.

“My main focus is George Kambosos. Once we get the victory, we can talk about what’s next. That’s crazy. What is he saying, he is making $25 million per fight? said Haney reacting to Gervonta by saying that he is making five times as much money as he is.

“Everyone knows that this is a hat. If he was making 25 million a fight, it would show. He hasn’t gotten any better than me. Everything you have, I have. Nobody believes that anyway. That was just an excuse to stop people from saying, ‘Why don’t you fight him?’ He wanted to run the money route from him.

“We all know the truth. He’s not sure he’s making five times as much as me. He’s not even making more than me.

“I can understand why he wants to fight Tank. He wants to get something back,” Haney said of Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz. “He wants to redeem himself.”
