During this chat with Fight Hype, Deontay Wilder talks a bit about his upcoming fight against Robert Helenius, developing a close relationship with Luis Ortiz after fighting him twice, and whether or not he and Tyson Fury could bury the hatchet to fight. become friends. As Wilder says, don’t hold your breath on him and Fury, as he’s still convinced Fury used rigged gloves (at least in his second fight), and that’s an unforgivable act. Take a look at some of what Wilder had to say below.
Wilder on developing a close bond with former opponent Luis Ortiz and whether he could ever have that same bond with Tyson Fury
“Nope. Ever. Because I know the truth behind it. I don’t condone cheating and stuff. I know, no matter what people say. It’s like when you have an analyst or whatever and you say ‘if he had something on his gloves, why didn’t you go to the authorities?’
“And I wish I was in front of them so I could grab them by the neck, and I would grab them by the neck and pull them close to my face so we can be face to face, face to face, so much so that my breath touches their face. And I would tell them ‘why the hell would I go to the authorities when I have the opportunity to release my own energy and get my hands on him and the possibility of trying to kill him, AND RECEIVE MILLIONS OF DOLLARS FOR DOING IT! ”
“Ok, ‘go to the authorities’, they lock you up, so what’s next? That is all. A good article, okay, we prove our case. Nobody feeds. What justice has done that? That makes no sense. That sounds like someone who isn’t confrontational, that he’s not supposed to be in any combat sports because his mindset isn’t set on combat… all that theory doesn’t even make sense to me.
“We are in the injury business. I can hurt you and get paid to do it, that sounds like a good deal to me.”
On whether he would have any interest in fighting Tyson Fury for the fourth time
“Definitely… you know me, I never ducked or dodged around anyone. I am the one who blessed people with all the opportunities. Even when they’re not my must-haves or they’re not in line to fight, just because they’re a great fighter, I see the potential that it’s going to be a great fight, I make it happen.
“One thing about my team, being with Al Haymon and Shelly (Finkel)… we don’t avoid anyone. Who I want, we’ll get it. Al doesn’t hold his fighters back in things. He could give his suggestion on this and that or whatever, but more or less who we want, we will get.”
