Defoe on Tielemans Leicester future

Jermain Defoe has made it clear that he is a huge fan of Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans after seeing his marvelous goal against Everton at the weekend.

The Belgium international looks back on his prime right now, even though he and Leicester got off to a bit of a slow start to the season after a difficult summer.

The Foxes had to deal with the departure of key players, while Tielemans was the subject of a long transfer saga that may well have unsettled him for a while.

Of course, Leicester still have a potential concern with Tielemans, as he is yet to sign a new contract and will be a free agent next summer, with Arsenal linked with him again recently for Rudy Galetti.

Defoe has told Leicester they must do everything they can to tie down their star player, with his recent form meaning he will surely have the choice of any club he wants once his contract is up next summer.

What’s next for Youri Tielemans?

“Technically he is so good, players like that, when you have better players around you, it makes you better. He is just a great player,” Defoe told Premier League Productions, quoted by the Leicester Mercury.

“It’s Scholey’s, Scholes and Beckham used to do it. It’s so hard, it makes it look so easy to hit it the first time and keep it down.

“He’s in the strongest position ever (in terms of who he can sign for),” Defoe added. “How he is performing now, then Leicester need to try and get him signed.

“But it will be a choice of any club that wants in the summer. There is no pressure on him and let’s see what happens in the summer.”

Arsenal fans are hoping they can remain in a strong position to sign Tielemans, but they may have missed their chance after being unable to do anything for him a couple of months ago.

Now the 25-year-old’s stock is sure to have risen even higher, and a host of clubs could bet on him if he becomes a free agent next year.
