One of the biggest beneficiaries of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar could be Man United’s Harry Maguire.
That’s according to journalist Dean Jones, who believes the English centre-back’s performance in Qatar could put him in a better position to ‘save’ his United career.
Despite being named captain of the 20-time league winner by former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the 29-year-old Maguire lost his place under new boss Erik Ten Hag.
Forced to go down to the substitute bench, the 29-year-old has barely played at home since the start of the season.
Yet despite his precarious position at the club, international manager Gareth Southgate has remained attached to the former Leicester City defender. Starting each and every game in the Three Lions World Cup, Maguire was arguably one of his country’s most valuable players.

However, now that he has returned to club duties with United after England suffered quarter-final heartbreak at the hands of France, Maguire though unlikely to force Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martínez out of the starting 11 Ten Hag’s favourite, he might still have a chance to turn his Old Trafford career around.
“I think we have to look at Harry Maguire’s form at the World Cup and his situation,” Jones told GiveMeSport.
“He will return to the bench when he returns to club football.
“However, at some point soon, he will have a game at Man United. And from there, there’s now a better chance that I’ll save his Man United career with some form of form in his back pocket, so I think there’s still a lot to play for before a transfer really comes to fruition.” .
Speaking to the press recently about Maguire’s future, Ten Hag, quoted by the Mirror, said: “Only if he no longer wants to be in these circumstances.
“Until then, I’m happy with him. I’ve told him and you, I can’t do anything else. It’s up to him to contribute to play for the team himself.”
