Date set for Vasiliy Lomachenko vs George Kambosos Jr IBF title fight

Vasiliy Lomachenko and George Kambosos Jr reportedly have their date set.

Mike Coppinger of ESPN.com reports that the fight will take place on May 12 in Australia, and will air live in prime time on May 11 in the United States on ESPN.

Lomachenko and Kambosos will fight for the vacant IBF lightweight title.

The fight was first reported just before Christmas. Lomachenko and Kambosos had intended to fight in 2022, when Kambosos still had three lightweight titles, but Lomachenko opted to stay in Ukraine during the early days of the Russian invasion of the country.

Instead, Kambosos fought and lost to Devin Haney twice.

The 35-year-old Lomachenko (17-3, 11 KOs) won world titles in three divisions, including lightweight, and last fought in May 2023, losing a hotly debated decision to the aforementioned Haney.

Kambosos (21-2, 10 KOs), 30, last fought in July 2023, winning a hotly debated decision over Maxi Hughes.

Coppinger also reports that both Moloney twins, Jason and Andrew, will fight on the undercard. Jason just retained his WBO bantamweight title last night in Quebec City, beating Saul Sanchez by decision in an excellent fight.
