Date given as Sterling could return to England duty earlier than expected

Raheem Sterling is considering rejoining the England camp after leaving last week due to a personal matter.

Ahead of the Three Lions’ round of 16 clash against Senegal last Sunday, the Chelsea star returned to England to check on his family after a burglary at his Surrey home.

The footballer’s family is not believed to have been in the home at the time of the robbery and Sterling insisted he would only consider returning to the World Cup once he could be sure his family was safe and secure following discussions with the police, report the Daily Mail.

That return seems to be getting closer now that the Chelsea star is considering a return to the England camp.

According to the Daily Mail, Sterling is contemplating a return to England’s base at Al Wakrah and could return as early as Friday, just 24 hours before the Three Lions’ quarter-final clash against France.

There is understood to be some optimism that the FA could provide an update on Thursday regarding the situation, as Gareth Southgate would love to have one of his favorite players back if he is up for it.

If Sterling returns, it’s unlikely he’ll play a role in France’s game, but his teammates will be happy to have him in the squad for what is, England’s toughest game in the tournament so far.
