The EURO 2016 champions started the game strongly and dominated possession against Ghana, but failed to create many clear chances in the first half of the game.

After the goalless first half, Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring in the 65th minute of the game, converting a penalty to give Portugal the lead. Ronaldo won the penalty himself after Mohammed Salisu brought him down inside the penalty area.

Ghana, however, equalized just eight minutes later, with Andre Ayew hammering home from close range. Ghana attacked on the left and Portugal were unable to clear Mohammed Kudus’s cut for Ayew, who was not wrong to put it in.
Portugal, however, would restore their lead just five minutes later. Bruno Fernandes slotted in Joao Felix, and the young Portuguese sent the ball past the Ghanaian keeper and into the net in Portugal vs Ghana.
Portugal then established a two-goal cushion in the 80th minute of play. Fernandes converted the assist provider again and Rafael Leao, coming on as a substitute a few minutes earlier, sent the ball into the far corner.
However, the match came to a nervous end after Ghana scored their second goal of the match in the 89th minute to halve their deficit. Ghana went for their third goal and an equalizer in stoppage time, but it never came as Portugal held on to start their campaign off to a winning start.
The victory moves Portugal to the top spot in Group H, with three points from one match. South Korea and Uruguay occupy the second and third position respectively in the group with one point each. Ghana, meanwhile, sit fourth in the table, with zero points from their first match.
