The English FA has accused Cristiano Ronaldo of Manchester United for an incident with an Everton fan. The sport’s governing body in England claims the 37-year-old striker breached rule E3 of the manual.

The incident in question came after an April Premier League game with Everton. Cameras captured Cristiano Ronaldo knocking a cell phone out of the hands of an Everton fan as the star striker walked past. At the time, Ronaldo was walking off the pitch towards the United dressing room after Everton had defeated the Red Devils, 1-0. Police questioned and booked the Portuguese international after the match.

Rule E3 states that “a participant shall at all times act in the best interest of the game and shall not act in any way that is inappropriate or brings the game into disrepute or uses violent conduct, or a combination thereof, or gross misconduct. . threatening, abusive, indecent, or insulting play, words, or conduct.”

The punishment is reduced to a hearing. Ronaldo must accept or deny the accusations. An end result of these charges could be a warning, a fine, or in an extreme case, a suspension. There is no date set for Cristiano Ronaldo’s hearing.

After the fiasco at Goodison Park, Ronaldo took to social media to apologize. “We always have to be respectful, patient and set an example for all young people who love the beautiful game,” Ronaldo said on Instagram. “I would like to apologize for my outburst and, if possible, would like to invite this fan to watch a match at Old Trafford as a show of fair play and sportsmanship.”

Merseyside Police released a statement last month confirming that they spoke to the player. “We can confirm that a 37-year-old male voluntarily attended and was interviewed under caution in connection with an allegation of criminal assault and damage,” the statement read.

“The allegation relates to an incident following the Everton vs Manchester United football match at Goodison Park on Saturday 9th April. The matter has been treated with a conditional warning. The matter is now over.
