CONFIRMED – Liverpool vs. Wolves POSTPONED after Queen’s death – Liverpool FC

Liverpool’s game against Wolves has been postponed, as has the entire Premier League schedule for next weekend following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

The Queen’s death was confirmed on Thursday, triggering Operation London Bridge, which monitors what will now happen across the UK.

That extends to the sport during what is said to be a ten-day mourning period, with upcoming Premier League matches postponed, meaning Liverpool will not face Wolves on Saturday.

The decision comes after consultation with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport on Friday morning and a final call from the Premier League to postpone games.

As for the Champions League midweek matches, the hope will be that they go ahead as scheduled.

For many, this is an overreaction, as a lot of respect can still be paid while football matches and events go ahead as planned, while also ensuring that people don’t lose money they’ve already spent during a crisis. of the cost of living.

The Premier League statement reads:

At a meeting this morning, Premier League clubs paid tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

To honor his extraordinary life and contribution to the nation, and as a show of respect, this weekend’s round of Premier League matches will be postponed, including Monday night’s match.

Richard Masters, chief executive of the Premier League, said: “We and our clubs would like to pay tribute to Her Majesty’s long and unwavering service to our country.

“As our longest-serving monarch, she has been an inspiration and leaves behind an incredible legacy after a lifetime of dedication.

“This is a tremendously sad moment not only for the nation but also for the millions of people around the world who admired her, and we join all those who mourn her passing.”

Further updates on Premier League matches during the duel period will be provided in due course.

It is not the first time that the death of a royal has led to the cancellation or postponement of events, as the death of Princess Diana in 1997 saw Liverpool’s meeting with Newcastle canceled on the same day.

Games that were scheduled for the day of the funeral have been moved to the day before or the day after and the same will be expected for the Queen, who may see the Reds’ trip to Chelsea rescheduled.

As for when these Premier League games will be officially rescheduled, no one knows, as Liverpool, for example, play every weekday and weekend until the World Cup forces domestic football to stop.

Upon his return, there won’t be a midweek off in the top flight until 17/18 January, thanks to the addition of domestic cups to the relentless schedule.
