Collymore on Henderson for England

Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson now appears to have become indispensable to England manager Gareth Southgate, according to CaughtOffside columnist Stan Collymore.

The Reds captain didn’t necessarily look like a starter for England at this World Cup, but he started the match against Senegal yesterday, scoring the opener in a resounding 3-0 win.

Henderson has worked his way back into the England starting line-up and Collymore now believes he has done enough to become unbeatable.

Responding to the performance against Senegal, Collymore said: “Overall a good performance, 8/10. They went toe-to-toe against their physicality, kept their cool, momentum from Bellingham, Declan Rice and Jordan Henderson, who may now be indispensable as Bellingham and Rice’s head babysitter.

“Another step up against France, but they won’t like playing us with 15 goals in their pocket and only two goals conceded.”

England take on France on Saturday in the quarter-finals, in what looks to be a fascinating encounter between two of the best teams in the tournament.

It will be interesting to see if Henderson ends up keeping his place, and what other changes Southgate might feel they need to make to quell the threat from Kylian Mbappe and co.
