PSV striker Cody Gakpo is ready to decide his future after the World Cup.
The 23-year-old started his fourth straight World Cup match as the Netherlands posted a crucial 3-1 victory to knock out the United States and secure their place in the quarterfinals. It was the first game of the tournament in which he did not get on the scoresheet after scoring three times.
He, along with his teammates, will prepare for their next test against Argentina next Friday 9 December, with a riotous Lionel Messi eager to seal his collection of record-breaking honors with the lucrative trophy.
Manchester United came close to reaching a deal for Gakpo last summer, before prioritizing the signing of Antony from Ajax. Months later, the Dutchman admitted it was “a shame” a transfer didn’t materialise.
Cody Gakpo: “I was close to leaving PSV. I spoke a couple of times with Erik ten Hag at Manchester United, in the end the deal fell through… and it was a shame,” says The Times. ?? #MUFC @TomAllnutt_

The Red Devils look set to reignite their search for the prolific striker, who has nine goals and 12 assists in 14 club-level appearances this season, once the January window opens.

Gakpo talks about transfer speculation
However, Gakpo is thinking about transfers, telling The Athletic that he is focusing solely on the World Cup. He said: “I have to be honest, I’m not thinking about it right now. I am focused on the tournament and I want to continue performing well, to continue helping the team.
“Hopefully, when we are world champions, we can think of other things. I try to stay focused and the other players don’t really talk about that kind of thing.”
