Cody Gakpo Liverpool or Arsenal transfer over Man Utd

Dutch striker Cody Gakpo is enjoying an exceptional World Cup at the moment, and it seems certain that he will attract a lot of transfer interest in the near future.

Gakpo has performed well for PSV at club level and now shines brightly on international football’s biggest stage with a hugely impressive form for his country in Qatar.

Speaking about the situation of his fellow Dutchman, former Liverpool striker Ryan Babel named either Liverpool or Arsenal as good moves for the player should the opportunity arise.

Babel also mentions links to Manchester United but seems to think Gakpo would be better off moving to Anfield or the Emirates Stadium than Old Trafford.

“We are seeing a lot of interest in Gakpo in Europe and a lot of rumors about what he will do next,” Babel told The Athletic. “He is 23 years old and I am curious to see if PSV can keep him until the end of the season.

“They are third in the Eredivisie but three points behind the leaders. If they want to win the league they will have to keep it since he is assisting, he is scoring and he is always involved in his team’s attacks.

Cody Gakpo in action for the Netherlands

“You see him linked to clubs in England, like Manchester United. They’re all priced right, so let’s see how it plays out in the tournament. He has shown enough quality to be ready for the next step, either in January or next summer.

“As a Liverpool fan I would tell him to go to Liverpool if they come close! Arsenal would also be an incredible team for him, with the current manager and the project they are building. He has to follow his heart.”

Gakpo could be an important addition to the Liverpool squad at the moment, with Jurgen Klopp struggling since losing to Sadio Mane in the summer.

Meanwhile, Arsenal lack depth behind the likes of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, so Gakpo surely has a role to come in to give them another goal threat that could help them stay at the top of the table.

Still, United surely needs a Cristiano Ronaldo replacement too, and arguably an upgrade on inconsistent performers like Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Anthony Martial.
