Club target in demand Spanish fullback

Arsenal are set to battle it out with some of Europe’s biggest clubs over the signing of Real Valladolid’s Spanish full-back Iván Fresneda.

According to the Evening Standard, the Gunners will have to deal with interest in Fresneda from Borussia Dortmund, Juventus and Newcastle.

The 18-year-old right-back almost left Valladolid in January but ended up sticking with his club, making it more likely now that he will leave in the summer.

The Standard is also reporting that Fresneda has a £26.5m release clause and it looks like clubs will have to pay that directly out of the player’s contract at Valladolid which is not due to expire until 2025.

Fresneda has made 10 league appearances for his club this season, and Valladolid continue to fight for their right to stay in La Liga beyond this campaign as they sit just two points above the relegation zone after 22 matches.

Fresneda is considered one of the best defensive prospects in Europe.

With Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu the names currently playing at Arsenal’s right-back, Fresneda would be a welcome addition to the team, especially with the former more naturally suited to a centre-back role.
