Chelsea news: The Blues took on Brighton & Hove Albion in a friendly match behind closed doors on Saturday, according to reports.
Both Chelsea and Brighton have no games this weekend. The two teams met at Brighton’s home, Amex Stadium.
The Chelsea players who had started in the 1-1 draw against RB Salzburg in the Champions League group stage did not feature for the Stamford Bridge team in this friendly.
Chelsea emerged victorious against Brighton with the Blues winning the game 2–1. Summer signing Carney Chukwuemeka scored both of Chelsea’s goals in the match.
Chelsea news: The performance of the Blues in the 22/23 season
Chelsea have had a mixed start to their 22/23 campaign. They started with a 1-0 win over Everton in their 22/23 Premier League opener. However, Chelsea lost points in their next game. London rivals Tottenham Hotspur held them to a 2-2 draw.
Chelsea then suffered their first defeat of the season, at the hands of Leeds United, who cruised to a 3-0 victory. They returned to winning ways in their next game, beating Leicester City 2-0.
However, the Blues fell to yet another loss, this time to Southampton who secured a 2–1 win. Chelsea hosted West Ham in their next game and won all three points, defeating them 2-1. Chelsea sit sixth in the Premier League points table with 10 points from their first six matches.
The Stamford Bridge side then kicked off their 22/23 Champions League campaign with a 1-0 loss to Dinamo Zagreb. Chelsea sacked Thomas Tuchel from his managerial post following this defeat. They have since replaced the German with Graham Potter, who joined Chelsea from Brighton.
Potter’s first game in charge of Chelsea ended in a 1–1 draw, with the Blues and RB Salzburg sharing Champions League points.
Brighton’s performance in the 22/23 season
Brighton have had a relatively good start to the season. They started their campaign by defeating Manchester United 2-1 at Old Trafford. They shared points with Newcastle United in their match, following a goalless draw.
Brighton then defeated West Ham United 2-0 before securing a 1-0 win over Leeds United. They fell to their first loss of the season when they met Fulham, who inflicted a 2-1 defeat on them.
Brighton returned to winning ways with a resounding victory over Leicester City in their next game. They posted a 5-2 win over the Foxes in the Premier League. They are fourth in the Premier League points table.
