Christopher Nkunku close to joining Chelsea in summer move

Christopher Nkunku, one of the brightest talents in European football, appears to be on his way to Stamford Bridge and Chelsea. The current RB Leipzig forward would join the English team in the summer of 2023.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Chelsea are losing around $60 million for the French player. However, this is not necessarily a ‘new’ transfer. In September, Bild reported that Nkunku has already completed a medical with Chelsea. Although some media denied the medical examination of him, it now appears that Nkunku was preparing to move to Chelsea.

Despite the January transfer window approaching, this will not happen after the World Cup. Instead, Nkunku will end the season with RB Leipzig before moving up to the Premier League. At the moment, Leipzig is third in the Bundesliga and is destined for the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League. The German club faces Manchester City in the round of 16 in the latter.

Nkunku has been central to RB Leipzig’s success in recent years since moving from PSG in the summer of 2019. This season, Nkunku scored 12 goals and two assists in Die Roten Bullen’s 15 Bundesliga games. In European matches, Nkunku scored three goals, including one against Real Madrid.

Last season, he contributed 55 goals in 52 total appearances for RB Leipzig as the club reached the Europa League semi-final and won the DFB-Pokal.

Christopher Nkunku is on the brink of a deal with Chelsea

With such great results, it’s no surprise that Nkunku was a hot commodity among Europe’s top clubs. In the end, it looks like Chelsea is the final landing spot for the striker.

Graham Potter is trying to find his place at Stamford Bridge, and Todd Boehly is ready to spend some money as Chelsea owner. Nkunku, who is 24, can play anywhere up front. Twelve of his appearances are as a playmaker in attacking midfield or as a second striker. However, he also has beginnings as a lone striker, on the right and on the left.

Chelsea’s 17 goals this season in the Premier League is the worst tally among teams in the top half of the table. For the good of the Blues, Nkunku can solve some of those problems.
