Chelsea’s whopping January spending tops four of Europe’s top leagues combined outgoings

Chelsea have not stopped spending since new chairman Todd Boehly took charge of the club last summer.

Chelsea’s board has overseen 15 newcomers since the end of last season, totaling £400m, more than the amount spent on the Bundesliga, La Liga, Ligue 1 and Serie A combined.

They oversaw their sixth winter transfer window signing tonight after completing the transfer of 20-year-old Noni Madueke from PSV. Arsenal target Mykhaylo Mudryk also completed the move from Shakhtar Donetsk earlier this week.

Graham Potter is expecting an instant impact from his recent additions, with the club currently sitting 10th in the Premier League and 10 points behind Newcastle United in fourth.

However, they remain in the Champions League and return to European action on February 15 in a round of 16 tie with Borussia Dortmund. Tomorrow they face ninth-placed Liverpool, where three points are absolutely crucial to both teams’ top-four hopes.
