Chelsea’s Stance Over Cristiano Ronaldo May Have Changed

Chelsea’s stance on Cristian Ronaldo may have changed after they parted ways with Thomas Tuchel and appointed Graham Potter as their manager.

That’s according to ESPN, whose reporting sources have said there is an acceptance that Chelsea’s position may have changed since Potter took charge of the club.

Ronaldo was linked with a move from Manchester United in the previous summer transfer window. Reports said the 37-year-old had asked Man Utd to allow him to leave if they received a suitable offer.

Ronaldo reportedly wanted to play in the Champions League, which Man Utd couldn’t offer. The Reds missed out on qualifying for this season’s Champions League after finishing sixth in the Premier League last season.

Among the clubs linked with a move for Ronaldo was Chelsea. There were reports that Chelsea co-owner and chairman Todd Boehly was intrigued by the prospect of signing Ronaldo in the summer.

But Tuchel, the then manager of the Blues, reportedly decided not to sign the Portuguese international in the summer transfer window. Chelsea also beefed up their attacking department with the addition of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Raheem Sterling.

After reports surfaced that Man Utd will allow Ronaldo to leave the club in the January transfer window, Chelsea manager Graham Potter was asked if he would sign the Man Utd forward if given the chance. Potter, however, refused to talk about a player playing for another club.

There have been no concrete reports at this stage that Chelsea will make a move for Ronaldo in the January transfer window.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo has had a difficult start to the 22/23 season. The number 7 has apparently lost his place in Man Utd’s starting XI. He has appeared in nine games for Man Utd this season but has only made four starts.

Of the four starts he has made, only one was in the Premier League. That happened in Man Utd’s second game of the season when they took on Brentford.

Ronaldo has also struggled to score goals, managing just one so far. That goal came in the Europa League and Ronaldo is currently on a Premier League goal this season.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo’s current contract with Man Utd expires next year. But there is an option to extend it for another 12 months.
