Chelsea v Liverpool postponement possible as Queen’s funeral invites serious police shortage concerns – potential solution discussed

Liverpool’s meeting with Chelsea on Sunday could be postponed due to an expected police shortage in response to the location of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral (‘and the events surrounding it’) the following Monday.

It would mean that yet another match, along with the previously changed Wolves clash, would take place after the World Cup in Qatar, cluttering up the schedule.

A solution that would allow the match to be played on the date in question has already been discussed, as Mike Keegan writes for the Daily Mail: “A number of options are being considered. It is believed that changing games has already been discussed.

“However, Everton are at home on the same day that Chelsea would head to Anfield.”

The Merseysiders are currently seventh in the Premier League table, notably just six points behind leaders Arsenal, despite a somewhat poor start to the 2022/23 campaign.

While we can respect the need to ensure the safety of fans at an English top-flight game, it would be equally remiss not to take into account the potential difficulties related to the congestion of the match schedule after the World Cup.

If it is possible to change the host of Chelsea at Stamford Bridge with our draw at home later, it would make sense to avoid complications in the future.

Of course, Jurgen Klopp and his coaching staff may well be quietly waiting for the reunion with the Blues to suffer a similar fate as the Wolves clash so they can do more work on the training ground and host the injured stars after the devastating 4. -1 defeat in Naples.

Certainly more, one might imagine, after Andy Robertson joined the club’s long injury list.
