Chelsea Plotting a January Move for French Forward Martin Terrier

English Premier League giants Chelsea are exploring the possibility of signing French striker Martin Terrier from Ligue 1 club Rennes.

Martin Terrier began his football career at the Lille academy. The striker then rose through the ranks and was promoted to the French club’s reserve side.

Terrier made his senior team debut for Lille in 2016. The striker then spent a year on loan at Strasbourg. Terrier arrived in Lyon in the 2018-19 season. He played for two years for the French giants and scored seventeen goals.

The Frenchman eventually joined Rennes for a reported fee of €12m in early summer 2020. Terrier then slowly cemented his place in the starting line-up. He scored a staggering 21 goals during the 2021-22 session and was named in the Ligue 1 Team of the Year.

Now, according to a report by Jeunes Footeux, English Premier League club Chelsea are interested in signing Martin Terrier in the upcoming January transfer window.

Chelsea brought in England manager Graham Potter from Brighton just after the end of the summer window to replace their UEFA Champions League manager Thomas Tuchel. Under the British manager, Chelsea stabilized their season.

The Blues have qualified for the UEFA Champions League round of 16 and are also in the running for the top four of the English Premier League. But now they are planning quite a few arrivals in the January transfer window.

Chelsea signed Raheem Sterling and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at the start of the season. However, neither man has managed to perform consistently for the London-based club. As a result, Chelsea have struggled to find the back of the net.

And now the Blues management wants to sign a striker in the next window. Therefore, they are currently looking for Rennes striker Martin Terrie. The 25-year-old French striker is knocking on the door of the France team.

He already has eleven goals in nineteen appearances so far. Terrier is a proven goalscorer and one of the best finishers in the world. His signing is sure to give Chelsea’s forward a huge boost.

However, signing him will not be an easy job for the Blues. The French striker recently signed a contract renewal with Rennes that will keep him at the club until 2026. They will only sell his talisman if Chelsea sends a very big offer. However, the new Chelsea management is fully capable of it.

Chelsea will now face Manchester City in their next game.
