The World Cup continues, and domestic soccer seems a long way off. We still have to wait until the end of December for club football to return.
And as we get closer to Christmas, it feels a little weirder that there’s currently a World Cup and no domestic soccer. But it’s okay. In fact, for Chelsea, it’s more than fine. We have had a vital opportunity to rest and restart in what has been a very difficult time of poor performances and results. I think the fans even needed this break.
But the reason it’s so good, more than anything else, is because we’re getting this opportunity to get our key injured players healthy, and we won’t miss any more games without them.
As you can see below, players like Reece James, Wesley Fofana and Ben Chilwell are all recovering well. And if it were a normal year without the World Cup, these three key players would miss a handful of big games, so at least they’re not doing it now and there’s optimism they’ll be back soon. Chelsea need these guys back, badly.

They also need N’Golo Kante, but it looks like we’ll still have to wait a bit longer for him. But still, as Chelsea returned to training this week after the veteran players had a mid-season break and holiday, there are only big positives to be seen from this.
All of these players, barring some in the World Cup, will not only have a great chance to rest, but also have a great chance to get back in top condition.
N’Golo Kante is a long-term absentee and will continue to work in the gym. It is unclear how far Kepa Arrizabalaga has progressed in his recovery from a foot injury that has proven difficult to overcome.#CFC

We are going to need all of these players in their prime and fully recovered for what is going to be a long second half of the season for Graham Potter and Chelsea.
