Chelsea feel they’re getting “tremendous value” with imminent signing

Chelsea reportedly feel the incoming signing of Benoit Badiashile for £33m is “tremendous value”, according to Ben Jacobs in his column for Si & Dan Talk Chelsea.

The Blues are closing in on a deal for Badiashile, who will undergo a medical with the club this week before signing a six-and-a-half-year deal at Stamford Bridge, according to Jacobs.

The reporter insists that it is not true that Monaco asked for up to £50m and Chelsea closed the deal at a relatively low price. The £33m looks like a great deal from the west London giants for a young defender with great potential.

Chelsea’s negotiations ended up going quite well, it seems, with the club apparently being drawn to the 21-year-old for a variety of reasons, including his aggressiveness and calm on the ball.

Benoit Badiashile in action for Monaco

“Benoit Badiashile is subject to a medical examination that is taking place this week,” Jacobs said. “He will sign a 6.5-year contract for a fee of around £33m.

“Chelsea are delighted to do this early in the window and believe the fee is tremendous value. They’re right, too, even though he didn’t have much time left on his contract. It was a smooth negotiation and it was never true that Monaco wanted more than £50m.

“Chelsea are impressed by Badiashile’s calm on the ball, aggressiveness and commanding aerial qualities. There is also room for improvement, especially with your back to goal or anticipating tricky moves around the box.”

Chelsea were surely right to sign a new centre-back this January after Kalidou Koulibaly’s poor form, while Wesley Fofana has struggled with injuries since joining from Leicester City in the summer.
