João Félix may not join Arsenal or Manchester United as Chelsea are late to sign the Atlético Madrid striker. For weeks, Arsenal and Manchester United seemed the two main suitors to take over the Portuguese. However, a late hit from Todd Boehly and Graham Potter can bring the talent.
According to The Athletic, João Félix has a verbal agreement with Chelsea to sign on loan for the Stamford Bridge team for the remainder of the season. David Ornstein reports that Chelsea will pay Atletico Madrid around $11 million for the mid-season loan. This figure is below what Atlético originally wanted. However, it seemed that no Premier League club wanted to pay that much for Felix.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano confirmed the link between the two parties.
Romano added that Chelsea had a greater desire to land a top-tier striker after a number of factors. For one, Chelsea are out of form with goals drying up offensively. Most recently, Chelsea suffered a 4-0 defeat against Manchester City in the FA Cup after losing 1-0 to City in midweek in the League.
out of shape blues
That loss to City compounded a terrible run of form in the league. Chelsea have a win and a draw in their last seven league games. During that time, Chelsea have scored just four goals and conceded nine. As a result, Chelsea sit tenth in the table with a trip to seventh-placed Fulham next on the schedule.
Furthermore, Chelsea is out of both the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup. Manchester City thrashed Chelsea in both competitions at the Etihad. Therefore, the only thing Chelsea have going for them is the UEFA Champions League. Chelsea is in the round of 16, and faces a tie against Borussia Dortmund.
These struggles are the result of a number of factors. The new ownership is a distraction. Also, the arrival of Graham Potter makes things difficult for the players. Potter thrived at Brighton and is still implementing his tactics at Stamford Bridge. However, countless injuries prevent any consistency on the team sheet.
João Félix responds to some Chelsea injury problems
As Fabrizio Romano pointed out, Chelsea accelerated negotiations with Atlético Madrid after several recent injuries. Right now, Chelsea could put together a strong XI made up solely of players on their injury report. Edouard Mendy, Ben Chilwell, Reece James, Wesley Fofana, N’golo Kante and Ruben Loftus Cheek all have significant injuries.
However, João Félix is there to fit in above, where Chelsea are conspicuously absent from the names. , Raheem Sterling, Armando Broja and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are injured. Therefore, João Félix may slide right in to play a role in Graham Potter’s team.
