Former undisputed women’s world champion, ‘The First Lady’ Cecilia Braekhus, is on the hunt for the title in the junior middleweight division.

“I am very excited to compete at 154 pounds. division and I want to fight all the world champions,” said Braekhus, (36-2, 9 KO’s). “I fought for thirteen years as a welterweight with great success and now I’m looking for the biggest fights at 154,” Braekhus said after a training session under the watchful eye of Johnathon Banks.

“Looking at the best fighters at 154, I would like to face the world champions; Hannah Rankin, Natasha Jonas or Marie-Eve Dicaire, there is no time to waste and I would happily fight them anywhere they want.”

Other top names who have long expressed an interest in taking on Braekhus include MMA superstar Cris Cyborg, former world champion Christina Hammer, current world champion Hanna Gabriels and top contender Maricela Cornejo.

Since his last fight in March 2021, Braekhus has used his time wisely.

“The break has given me the opportunity to restart my career and really focus on my goal of becoming world champion at 154 and towards another undisputed status. I am very happy to see all the work that I and others put into women’s boxing and to see the sport grow for so many girls,” said Braekhus, who worked tirelessly for more than seven years to lift the ban on professional boxing in her native Norway.

Once the ban was lifted in Norway, Braekhus defended his undisputed status four times (2016-2017) in his native country, with each event drawing crowds of over 10,000 fans and earning record broadcast ratings.

Braekhus truly shattered the glass ceiling of women’s boxing in 2017, fighting in the first all-female bout broadcast on HBO from Los Angeles, CA. Her victory over top-rated challenger Kali Reis was watched in the United States by 904,000 viewers.
