Carvalho admits UCL debut was ‘dream come true’ but focus now on City

Fabio Carvalho has explained that making his Champions League debut was a dream come true and believes the 7-1 thrashing of Rangers was exactly what Liverpool ‘needed’.

The 20-year-old, who signed with Fulham this summer, played the full 90 minutes at Ibrox and looked spirited all night as the Reds bounced back from Sunday’s disappointing loss to Arsenal.

Our No. 28 spoke to Liverpoolfc.com after the match and admitted he needed a strong performance under his belt to boost his confidence.

“Yes, the Champions League is what everyone dreams of playing as a child and today I made my debut and I played the whole game,” said Carvalho. “It was a dream come true.

“It was a good night. We needed it as a team and for me personally I also needed it for my confidence. We got the three points and what a way to get the three points.”

Although we lost 1-0 in Glasgow, we showed great character to bounce back and respond with an impressive seven goals.

Mo Salah’s five-minute hat-trick from the bench comes at a great time as we prepare for Manchester City’s visit at the weekend.

Pep Guardiola’s side are already 13 points clear of Liverpool in the Premier League table, although they have played one more game than the Reds, but Carvalho stressed that the thrashing of Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side means the Merseysiders face to City in high spirits.

“We needed that,” he added. “Going to Sunday is a big game and we have to focus on that. The result was ours today and what a way to get the win, but our focus now is on Sunday and we can’t stop at this game. Obviously we know what [have] We’ve done well and we know where we can improve, and today’s result will give us confidence for Sunday.

“We have great players who perform on the highest stages. It’s a great game, so we have great players for it. It’s a great match, a great occasion, and I’m sure that if we give it our all and work hard, we’ll get a good result”.

The Citizens will pose a significantly stronger threat than the Rangers last night and we need to make sure all the guys are right from the start all over the field.

With the likes of Luis Diaz, Joel Matip and Trent Alexander-Arnold ruled out for the clash with Guardiola’s men, it will be interesting to see the starting eleven Jurgen Klopp opts for.

Winning the midfield battle on Sunday is imperative because City can tear you apart if you give the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva time.

Let’s hope for a great performance from the lads to really kick-start our Premier League campaign.
