Carragher reveals how he wanted to intervene and help ex-LFC boss

Jamie Carragher has been talking about Roy Hodgson and the short time the 75-year-old spent in charge of Liverpool between 2010 and 2011.

The former Fulham manager, who also led the England team during his long managerial career, had a forgettable time at Anfield and the former Reds defender has now admitted that he and Steven Gerrard questioned some of the decisions he made during his time. in the club.

“I probably felt that when Roy Hodgson was there [that he’d lost the dressing room]. I don’t think many players enjoyed training or had it,” the MNF co-host told the Diary of a CEO Podcast (via Rousing The Kop).

“We are like fans [he and Steven Gerrard], we were saying ‘what is he doing there, why did he do that’. I always remember, the only time I did this in my whole career, we lost at home to Blackpool with Roy Hodgson and I think it was an international break and by then I had stopped playing for England, and I couldn’t sleep. .

“I walked in the next morning and went straight to his office. In fact, he was having a coaches meeting and I was probably 33 or 34 years old, so I was a very experienced professional, and we had a big discussion with all the coaches.

“He was talking about what he wanted to do for the next game and I was saying ‘you can’t do that.’ It wasn’t me questioning him as a manager, I wanted to help him. It wasn’t that he needed help as a manager, he needed help as a Liverpool manager, as such. It was almost like, ‘if you go out and say that or if you play this player, you can’t do that anymore, this has to end.’

“I was more trying to help the situation and trying to help him because I knew it was difficult.”

The Hodgson era was a time to forget for most Liverpool fans and some of the signings he made during his tenure were absolutely shocking to say the least.

It’s interesting to hear that Carragher, along with Gerrard, almost felt like he had to stand up and be heard as a Scouser and one of the most experienced players on the team.
