Carragher compares Nunez to Premier League legend

Jamie Carragher has compared Darwin Núñez to Premier League legend Alan Shearer for the way the Liverpool forward strikes the ball.

The Uruguayan was in action for the Reds last night as Jurgen Klopp’s side fell to a 3-2 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad and although the 23-year-old fired three big missed chances, the Scouser still compared the £ 64m to Shearer.

“Not the most technical in terms of finishing,” Carragher told Sky Sports (via Express).

“When I’ve seen him really put his foot through the ball, even when he’s going down the middle, he has so much power in his shot that he can send the keeper into the net.

“Maybe I’m a few levels above him right now, but kind of like Alan Shearer, how he used to end up.

“When you think of an Alan Shearer ending, you think of almost bursting the net. I think that’s the kind of finish. [Nunez] kind of things.

Shearer is one of the best strikers, if not the best, to have played in the English top flight.

The former Newcastle man certainly knew how to find the back of the net and remains the Premier League’s top scorer with 260 goals despite hanging up his boots in 2006.

Núñez, for his part, continues to find his place in England after arriving from Benfica in the summer.

Last night, the Reds No. 27 looked lacking in confidence in front of goal, but registered an assist for Mo Salah.

So far this season (among all competitions), the former Almería striker has scored nine goals and registered three assists for Klopp’s team.

If he scores just half the number of goals Shearer managed in the division, we’ll be happy!

Let’s hope you have your shooting boots on when we visit Villa Park on Boxing Day.
